Billet Inquiry

Billet Housing Program

For the 2026/27 season, Thunder HC is actively seeking billet families to host players throughout the year. Billet housing plays a vital role in supporting our athletes as they transition into a high-performance hockey environment away from home.

A monthly stipend of $700/month will be provided unless another arrangement is agreed upon between families.

Billet families will receive:

  • Billet appreciation recognition at home games, including participation in a ceremonial puck drop
  • An official Thunder HC team photo
  • A Thunder HC hoodie for each family member (choice of black, purple, or grey) to show support at home games
  • Transportation assistance is appreciated but not required, as volunteer drivers are available to support player travel to team events

What is a Billet Family?

The term “billet” has been used in hockey for decades to describe a local family that hosts a player during the season. Billet families provide a safe and supportive home environment, including meals, laundry access, a place to study, and space to relax.

Players aged 14–18 typically require housing from September to June. Billet families help create a stable home environment that allows athletes to focus on both hockey development and personal growth.

Beyond housing, billet families play an important role in a player’s development as a young adult. These homes often become a second family, offering mentorship, structure, and support during a critical stage of life. In many cases, strong lifelong relationships are formed between players and their billet families.
